Rather than constantly buying entirely new cushions, we like to invest in quality feather inserts and change the covers instead. It is one of the simplest ways to give your interiors a new look without unnecessary waste or expense.
A good cushion maker will typically charge anywhere from £10–£20 to make a cushion cover, while feather inserts usually cost between £4–£30 depending on the size and quality. Once you have your inserts, you can build a collection of covers to rotate throughout the year.
Think warm and rich tones for autumn and winter, then lighter linens, stripes or playful florals for spring and summer.
3. Mix Shapes for a Relaxed Look
Choosing the right cushion shape and size makes all the difference to how polished a room feels.
We like to combine larger square cushions with smaller rectangular or round styles to create depth and make the arrangement feel more relaxed than curated.
Larger sofas can comfortably take oversized cushions, while smaller armchairs or benches benefit from more compact designs.
If you're really unsure, make templates out of paper and live with them for a while. You’ll soon know if they work or not.

Stripes, florals, checks and layered prints can all work really well when tied together through a shared colour palette. Cushions are also an easy way to echo colours already used elsewhere in the room, which is key to making a room feel cohesive.
